Walking with Jesus: 10 Days in the Gospel of Mark
Mark is the shortest and fastest-moving Gospel. Over ten days, walk alongside Jesus from the Jordan River to the empty tomb.
Gospel of Mark
Mark's Gospel moves quickly. One of its favorite words is often translated "immediately." Over the next ten days, you will read through much of the story of Jesus. Try to read as if you were one of the crowd, seeing these events for the first time.
Day 1 — The Beginning of Good News
Read: Mark 1:1-45
Jesus begins by calling ordinary fishermen, healing, and slipping away early to pray. What stands out to you about how Jesus spent his time, and what might his example say to the pace of your own life?
Day 2 — Friends Who Carry, a Lord Who Forgives
Read: Mark 2:1–3:6
Four friends carry a paralyzed man and even open a roof to bring him to Jesus. Who has carried you when you could not come on your own, and who might you help carry to Jesus in prayer?
Day 3 — Seeds and Storms
Read: Mark 4:1-41
Jesus tells stories about seeds and then calms a storm while his friends panic. What kind of soil describes your heart this season, and what storm are you asking Jesus to speak into?
Day 4 — Touched and Made Whole
Read: Mark 5:1-43
A desperate woman reaches for his cloak while a father waits for news about his daughter. What does it mean to you that Jesus stopped for one person in the middle of a crowd?
Day 5 — Enough to Share
Read: Mark 6:30-56
The disciples offer five loaves and two fish, and Jesus makes it enough. What small thing could you offer to God today, trusting him with what you cannot supply?
Day 6 — Seeing Clearly
Read: Mark 8:22–9:1
A man is healed in two stages, and then Peter confesses who Jesus is. Where do you feel you are "seeing partly" in your faith, and how might you ask Jesus to help you see more clearly?
Day 7 — The Last Will Be First
Read: Mark 10:13-52
Jesus welcomes children and stops for a blind beggar others tried to silence. Whose voice around you is easily overlooked, and how could you honor that person this week?
Day 8 — The Greatest Commandment
Read: Mark 11:1-11 and Mark 12:28-44
Jesus summarizes the law as loving God and loving neighbor, then praises a widow's small offering. What does wholehearted love look like for you right now, in ordinary, practical terms?
Day 9 — The Night in the Garden
Read: Mark 14:1-72
In Gethsemane, Jesus prays honestly about his anguish, and his friends fall asleep. What comfort do you find in knowing Jesus understands what it is like to feel overwhelmed and alone?
Day 10 — The Cross and the Empty Tomb
Read: Mark 15:1–16:8
Mark's account ends with women fleeing the tomb in fear and wonder. How does the resurrection speak to the parts of your life that feel finished or beyond hope?
